How to keep motivated and healthy moving into the cooler months

After overcoming years of struggle in my relationship with food and body image, it is now my passion is to help you heal, too. Jess talks to us about staying motivated and healthy through the cooler months.

Here are my tips to keeping yourself on track when things start to cool down:

BE YOUR OWN YOGI GODDESS! If hopping out of bed on those chilly mornings is putting you off your zen-time, try and practice yoga in the comfort of your own home by watching a class on your computer

MORNING ROUTINE Have a delicious and soothing morning routine which wakes you up for the day. My routine involves making myself a warm lemon water, taking some time to meditate and thinking of all the things I’m grateful for in my life, and enjoying a nourishing breakfast – oats are my favourite winter-warmers.

NOURISH YOUR BODY e.g. Soups and curries. My favourite is this warming Zucchini soup

THE PRE SUMMER COUNTDOWN Don’t use the winter months to let all your healthy habits go! Maintain them and come summer, you will be feeling well, energised and ready to enjoy the warmer months again.

Five years ago, I was definitely not my best self. I’m still on my health journey – I believe we all are – and everyone has their ups and downs, but adding these five things always keeps me grounded through whatever life throws at me (the good, and the bad):

  • Establish a healthy morning routine - no social media as you wake up. Make yourself a warm lemon water, take a few deep belly breathes, enjoy a healthy breakfast, get some exercise done.
  • Start yoga – this is life changing.
  • Make one healthy change a week – small changes are bigger than drastic moves.
  • Stop. Dieting. Love your body, move it in ways that give you energy and show respect.
  • Get 8 hours of sleep – make it a priority! It sets up your day.

One of my favourite quotes to live by is: ‘love your body, it’s the only place you have to live.’
